The Suspension System
The Suspension System serves two basic functions. Firstly, Improving Road Isolation from road noises, bumps and vibrations by absorbing and dampening shocks acting on Vehicle frame, due to irregularities in flatness of road, it provides for good feel experience of smooth undisturbed Ride quality for those travelling inside passenger compartment of the Vehicle.
Secondly, the Suspension System maximizes Vehicle tires contact with the surface of road, enhancing Road Holding ability of Vehicle, good road grip is needed for stable steering, braking and accelerating Vehicle safely. By maximizing friction between Vehicle tires and road surface, suspension system is able to minimize Vehicle weight transfer from side to side or from front to back during acceleration and braking. These weight transfers can reduce Vehicles ability to grip the road.
During Cornering or when Vehicle takes a sharp, fast turn, then centrifugal forces acts on it pushing its Center of Gravity outside, raising one end and lowering other end. This leads to body roll. The Suspension System minimizes this body roll by transferring the weight of the Vehicle from high side to low side during fast turning.
The basic components of the Suspension System are:
